BRITISH INDIA GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL WW1 SOUTH WAZIRISTAN SCOUTS MAHSUD CAMPAIGNS

Offered is an original 1908-35 India General Service Medal.

36mm wide circular silver medal with claw and ornate scroll swivel ribbon bar with original  'MAHSUD 1919-20'  & 'WAZIRISTAN 1919 – 21' clasps; the face with the crowned head and shoulders portrait of King George V facing left in coronation robes, circumscribed ‘GEORGIUS V KAISAR-I-HIND’ (George V Emperor of India); the reverse with a view of Jamrud Fort and the entrance to the Khyber Pass, inscribed ‘INDIA’ on a plaque below with oak and laurel branches to either side; impressed named on rim to 1685 SEP. SHER GHULAM, S. W. SCOUTS. on the correct ribbon.

An interesting combination of clasps to a not often seen combat unit.

The medal was instituted on 1 January 1909 for service in campaigns on India’s borders. The Mahsud 1919-20 clasp was awarded to those serving under Major General Skeen west of and including Jandola between 18th December 1919 – 8th April 1920. The Waziristan 1919-1921 clasp was awarded for service in Waziristan between 6 May 1919 and 31 May 1921.
