WW2 German Army Mountain Guide badge, with case. Excellent condition badge, measuring 43mm x 53mm. The bubbled green enamel is free of chips with only light wear and age tarnish. Central edelweiss shows some remains of the frosted finish to edges with gilded centre being very good indeed. Brass gilded boreder shows the hand finishing that these originals posess. Light wear and minor scratching to white enamel from use. Blackeded reverse showing pin back and maker mark for ‘DESCHLER & SOHN’ of Munich. Twin rear bolts for affixing the central edelweiss to rear. I believe the case to be a post war display case not associated with the award but used for housing this badge over the years. This is a very rare badge indeed, with these being issued in the high hundreds with many being souveniered towards the end of the war by the American and British forces. This came from an estate auction in Hampshire in October 2012.
