1827 BRITISH AUSTRALIAN NAVY OFFICERS ETCHED SWORD & SCABBARD WILKINSON LOCKET
Out of stock
Offered is a rare 1827 Pattern Naval Officers Sword with Scabbard, dating about the 1830’s.
Features an ornate gilded brass guard, with Crown & central fouled anchor. Lions head pommel & etched lions mane back strap is superb with smooth moving folding guard. The brass wire bound white shagreen grip is in very fine condition, ferrule has a break to metal. 82cm long, slightly curved piped backed blade shows minor spots from handling but is excellent unsharpened condition. Hand etchings to the brass proof plugged blade are very clear and fine, being both floral and martial in nature. The leather scabbard has both brass lockets, with suspension rings and lower brass drag, with upper throat locket carrying a Wilkinson Gun & Sword Makers Pall Mall London production shield. Overall length 97cm. We believe this would date from the 1830’s, being a very early etching pattern. Overall, a magnificent display sword beautifully crafted.
