36 mm wide circular cupro-nickel medal with ornate scrolled ribbon suspension bar with ‘S.E.ASIA 1945-46’ clasp; the face with the crowned head of King George VI facing left, circumscribed ‘GEORGIVS VI DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX FID: DEF; + ’ (George VI by the Grace of God King of Great Britain Defender of the Faith); the reverse with a standing winged Victory with Greek helmet, an upright trident in her left hand, a laurel wreath in her right hand crowning an upright winged sword. The medal is impressed named to: 32626 SEP. NEK RAM, 2ND BN., F.F.R.
The medal was originally instituted on 19 January 1923 to be awarded to Army and Air Force personnel involved in small conflicts outside Africa and India where a separate campaign medal was not issued.
The S.E.ASIA 1945-46 campaign bar was awarded for service in South-East Asia after the Japanese surrender, for various activities such as guarding Japanese POWs and maintaining law and order. By November 1946, British troops had handed over their responsibilities to the territories former colonial powers. The qualifying dates were: Dutch East Indies (Java and Sumatra): 3 September 1945 to 30 November 1946.French Indochina: 3 September 1945 to 28 January 1946.
