1936-39 BRITISH INDIA GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL WW2 AFGHANISTAN 11th SIKH REGIMENT

36mm wide circular silver medal with claw and ornate swivel scroll ribbon bar with original ‘NORTH WEST FRONTIER 1936-37’ clasp; the face with the crowned head of King George VI facing left, circumscribed ‘GEORGIUS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX ET INDIAE IMP: (George VI by the Grace of God King of Great Britain and Emperor of India); the reverse with a tiger above a mountainous landscape, circumscribed ‘INDIA’ above; attributed on the edge to 8362 NAIK DALIP SINGH, 1-11 SIKH R. on correct ribbon.

The Medal was instituted on 3 August 1938 to be awarded for minor campaigns in India. It was awarded for actions from 1936 and was not awarded after the outbreak of World War II. The ‘North West Frontier 1936-37’ clasp was awarded for full-time active service in two very precisely defined areas between 24 November 1936 and 16 December 1937 during the revolt in Waziristan.
