The Medal was instituted on 3 August 1938 to be awarded for minor campaigns in India. It was awarded for actions from 1936 and was not awarded after the outbreak of World War II. The ‘North West Frontier 1936-37’ clasp was awarded for full-time active service in two very precisely defined areas between 24 November 1936 and 16 December 1937 during the revolt in Waziristan.
