The Medal was instituted on 3 August 1938 to be awarded for minor campaigns in India. It was awarded for actions from 1936 and was not awarded after the outbreak of World War II. The ‘North West Frontier 1937-39’ clasp was awarded for full-time active service in three very precisely defined areas between specific dates between 15 December 1937 and 31 December 1939.
