WW2 GERMAN D.D.A.C. AUTOBAHN EMERGENCY RESPONDERS BADGE

D.D.A.C. Sanitats Abteilung. This badge is for the Medical Emergency Department for the Reich’s autobahn. The Fuhrer and his road planners knew early on that these roads where going to handle high speed traffic and accidents would occur, so the situation called for a medical-aid department catering to Germany’s travelers. The D.D.A.C., the government-controlled auto club, set up training and sponsored aid stations every 300 or so miles of the autobahn for the purpose of emergency medical assistance. Badge measures 47 mm across the arms, pin to rear and bears the maker mark Carl Poellath, Schrobenhausen, also a '03' is stamped into the lower arm which normally indicates that this badge would have been a presentation piece, keyed to a central award list. A very very rare badge indeed.
