HAMPSHIRE REGIMENT AFGHANISTAN BRITISH INDIA GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL 1919 WW1
Offered is an original 1908-35 India General Service Medal.
36mm wide circular silver medal with claw and ornate scroll swivel ribbon bar with original ‘AFGHANISTAN N.W.F. 1919’ clasp; the face with the crowned head and shoulders portrait of King George V facing left in coronation robes, circumscribed ‘GEORGIUS V KAISAR-I-HIND’ (George V Emperor of India); the reverse with a view of Jamrud Fort and the entrance to the Khyber Pass, inscribed ‘INDIA’ on a plaque below with oak and laurel branches to either side; impressed named on rim to 242093 PTE. R.L.T. SMITH, HAMPS. R.. on the correct ribbon.
Reginald Luke Thomas Smith is confirmed for his entitlement to the medal and clasp. Medal comes with summary service paperwork. Also entitled to B.W.M. for service with the 5th Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment during WW1.
The medal was instituted on 1 January 1909 for service in campaigns on India’s borders. The ‘Afghanistan N. W. F. 1919’ clasp was awarded for service in that area during the Third Afghan War from 6 May to 8 August 1919 & the‘Waziristan 1921-24’ clasp for service in Waziristan between 21 December 1921 and 31 March 1924.
