Offered is an original Polish Cross of Merit in Gold, cased set. 42mm wide red enamel and gilt metal Leopold cross with ball-tipped finials, gilt rays between the arms, with loop and stylised-laurel-decorated ring for ribbon suspension; the face with a white enamel circular central medallion bearing the letters ‘PRL’ (Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa = Polish People’s Republic) within red enamel and decorated gilt rings; the reverse plain; on original ribbon, with miniature enamel medal, all housed in the card award case. The Cross was instituted on 23 June 1923 and awarded to both military and civilians for merit in a wide range of fields. This good older example dates from the period 1952 to 1990.
