Offered is an original 1977 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal in case of issue.
32mm wide circular silver medal with ornate scroll, laterally-pierced ball and ribbon ring suspension; the face with the head of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Imperial State Crown and facing right, circumscribed ‘ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA FID. DEF. (Elizabeth II by the Grace of God Queen, Defender of the Faith); the reverse inscribed ‘THE 25TH YEAR OF THE REIGN OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II 6 FEBRUARY 1977’, the St. Edward Crown above, within a wreath of silver birch; un-named as issued on original ribbon mounted for wear; in the original fitted embossed case of issue with the Royal Mint symbol printed on the inside of the lid, loss of surface from underneath from the removal of a label.
The medal was instituted on 5 February 1977 to mark the 25th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on the death of her father, King George VI, in 1952. The medal was awarded to British and Commonwealth citizens for ‘community contribution’. Only 30,000 medals were produced and original examples, such as this, are very hard to find, especially in their case of issue. A very good example.
