PRE WW1 BRITISH AUSTRALIAN ARMY 1845 PATTERN MEDICAL OFFICERS SWORD & SCABBARD

Offered is a King Edward VII era (1902 -1910) 1895 Pattern British Army Officer's presentation sword, as worn by a Medical Officer.

The sword features a wire bound fish skin grip, mounted onto an a ornate clam shell back strap, with a gilded brass, half-basket hilt featuring the characteristic, gothic tracing and the monarch’s cipher (ERVII) in the guard and pierced bowl guard. The gilding is in fine condition, being of pre war quality, with old fashioned fittings for the period. The original leather sword knot and acorn are attached to the guard, showing age wear and dryness. The blade has battle & laurel leaf etchings running 1/2 down the length of both sides of the 82 cm straight blade. Very good etched royal arms and motto's running along both sides of the blade, including the crowned royal cypher with Tudor crown. Forte is star proved. The leather buffer pad is present and allows the scabbard to fall smoothly.

The leather & nickel mounted service scabbard is in very good condition, with only slight wear to the finish of the nickel drag. Generally, a very well cared for sword, which would be a great addition to your collection. This was bought through our shop here in Perth, so this may or may not have been worn whilst in service with the Australian forces. Overall length: 102 cm.
