Description

***SOLD***

19th Century 1882 Pattern French Dragoon Trooper’s Sword with Scabbard.
Features a 3 branched brass guard, issued stamped and attached to the leather bound, wire wrapped grip. Guard is attached to the domed, plain quarter brass back strap. The 92cm long, curved blade shows single blood groove, with a very good patina finish, with period sharpened blade edge. Signed to spine, for manufacture by Klingenthal, January 1884. The large nickel scabbard is in very good condition, with both suspension rings, not dented and numbered 650 to top suspension ring post. Scabbard’s original blued protective finish has dulled to a metallic brown, but great to see the finish still mostly present.
A very impressive, slashing sword for use by French Dragoons, right up to and including the early and final French cavalry charges of the First World War.
