RARE 15th LIGHT DRAGOONS KING’S HUSSARS MAMELUKE GEORGE IV OFFICERS CAVALRY SWORD
$7,500.00
SOLD
Offered is a George IV era Mameluke Officer's Sword as worn by a member of the 15th Light Dragoons (The King's Hussars).
The sword features a twin 'p' shaped ivory grips, with engraved hatchet design to the grips on both sides, with floral studs (one missing). A Long gilt bullion knot is tied to the insert hole to pommel. The detail on the stylised and decorated gilded brass cross guards is still very evident, yet shows many years of use, with the rosebud finials still present in all their glory to both horizontal ends.
The blade has the royal crown in sunburst and 'King's Hussars' etchings running 1/2 down the length of both sides of the 78 cm curved blade. The forte is etched for the maker Andrews, 9 Pall Mall, London (the makers style dating from 1821-1825). There is some light wear and light pitting patches to the lower blade point. The blade spine is engraved 'proved'.
The swords slides neatly into the amazingly decorated sheath, of engraved gilded brass panels, with dark shark skin base, with floral embossed ring mounts. The scabbard absolutely draws the eye to the majesty of the entire piece. This is one of the finer swords for the cavalry I have seen, obviously being purchased by a fine and rather wealthy officer. Just imagine this stunning piece in your own collection
