Offered is a Boer war pair of service medals, comprising Queen’s & King’s South Africa Medals, as awarded to Lieutenant B. St. J. Krige, who served with the Field Intelligence Department during the Boer War.

Queen’s South Africa Medal with campaign bars TRANSVAAL, ORANGE FREE STATE, RHODESIA & CAPE COLONY impressed to: LIEUT. B. ST J. KRIGE. F.I.D.

King’s South Africa Medal with date bars SOUTH AFRICA 1901. SOUTH AFRICA 1902, impressed to: LIEUT. B. ST J. KRIGE. F.I.D. (Letter T slightly overstruck).

Medals come with their original issue ribbons and rolls confirm award with all bars. Rare to see an officer’s pair for sale, being most likely in charge of a section of guides and scouts, made up of local townspeople and natives who acted as spies and guides for the Commonwealth troops.
