RARE WW1 GERMAN ARMY 98/05 MAUSER BUTCHER BAYONET & SCABBARD DM DUISBURG 1916

Offered is an original WW1 era German 98/05 Mauser 'Butcher' bayonet & scabbard by Deutsche Maschinefabrik (AG) of Duisburg.

Bayonet features steel fittings overall, with waffen stamps to birds head pommel with working external release button, screw in wooden grips and metal guard & partial muzzle ring. The 37 cm long swollen steel blade shows original factory sharpening to blade edge, retaining the clear spear point, with blade being in good condition overall, with usual wear and service chips. Ricasso maker stamped for Deutsche Maschinefabrik (AG) of Duisburg, with Prussian issue stamp and date for 1916 issue, with P stamped to underside of opposite side.

Standard metal scabbard with Waffen stamp to throat, in good original shape, showing no major dents or damage, with usual service worn finish. Blade fits very nicely into the scabbard. Overall length: 52cm.

The bayonet was designed for use with the 7.92 mm Gewehr 98 bolt action Mauser Rifle, being one of the main service rifles of the German Army pre and post WW1.
