The Afghan Medal of Freedom was institued as an award by Presidential Decree in 2006, the Afghan Government commissioned this ‘Freedom Medal’ to be issued to all troops from every country (Including US, Australian and allied troops) for the support of Afghan Freedom from the Taliban. The medal was only awarded 40 times, before the US and Afghan Governments saw that further award of this medal, (before the terrorist attacks within Afghanistan by the Taliban were finally stopped), would be highly embarrasing and unstable to the regime. Lovely gilded medal, with enamel features overall.
