VINTAGE WW1 WW2 WAR MEDAL FRENCH WAR WOUND MEDAL TYPE 2 COMBAT AWARD
35mm wide five-pointed rayed red enamel star imposed on a gilt laurel wreath, on laterally-pierced ball suspension; the reverse plain; diameter 11.8mm (0.46 inch); on original ribbon. The medal was established on 27 July 1916 for military wounded in combat or who suffered injury in service by accident or illness. Generations of former soldiers wounded in action have worn the decoration as a medal and it is generally accepted as such.
