WW1 BRITISH ARMY 1854 PATTERN SCOTS GUARDS INFANTRY OFFICERS SWORD & SCABBARD
$1,250.00
SOLD
Offered is an Edwardian era (1901-1910) 1854 Pattern British Army Scots Guards Officer's presentation sword, as worn by an Infantry Officer serving with the famous Scots Guards.
The sword features a wire bound fish skin grip, mounted onto an all chequered back strap and pierced bowl guard, featuring the regimental badge of the Scots Guards. The nickel finish overall is very good to outer bowl and nickel fittings. The blade has battle & laurel leaf etchings running 1/2 down the length of both sides of the 82 cm straight blade. Blade is etched with foliage, battle honours, monogram and regimental badge. Blade remains in good condition overall. A&TA Thompson London makers mark to base of the blade. Spine is numbered 101688. There are 13 battle honours etched to the blade, as can be seen in the photos.
The leather service scabbard is in very good condition and fits the picquet weight blade firmly. Generally, a well cared for sword, which would be a great addition to your collection. Most likely, this sword was made for a serving officer who needed it for campaigning in Africa or India, but most likely during the Boer War in South Africa 1899-1901 and used again through the First World War. Overall length: 99 cm.
