SOLD
Offered is a King George V era (1911-1935) 1895 Pattern British Army Officer's presentation sword, as worn by a Medical Officer.
The sword features a wire bound fish skin grip, mounted onto an a ornate clam shell back strap, with a gilded brass, half-basket hilt featuring the characteristic, gothic tracing and the monarch’s cipher (GVR) in the guard and pierced bowl guard. The gilding is exceptionally fine, being of pre war quality, with old fashioned fittings for the period. The blade has battle & laurel leaf etchings running 1/2 down the length of both sides of the 85 cm straight blade. Very good etched royal arms and motto's running along both sides of the blade, including the crowned royal cypher & R.A.M.C. (Royal Army medical Corps) with crown. Spine is numbered 2157 and star proved. The etching and blade would have to rate 9.5/10, one of the finer blades I have seen. The leather buffer pad is present and allows the scabbard to fall smoothly. The nickel service scabbard is in good condition, with only slight wear and 1 small dents to right side. Generally, a very well cared for sword, which would be a great addition to your collection. Most likely, this sword was made for a serving officer very shortly after George V took the throne, most likely 1911/1912 period. Overall length: 102 cm.
