WW1 BRITISH ROYAL NAVY JUTLAND ACTION PRESENTATION SWORD

World War I Presentation British Naval Officer's Sword to a Battle of Jutland Naval Officer.

Regulation form in superb overall condition. 31 1/2" straight blade etched for half its length with scrollwork and crown over fouled anchor on obverse. Large six pointed star on obverse ricasso with small brass "Proved" disc inset. Reverse etching with scrollwork, British coat of arms and 2" from the ricasso, which bears the etched maker's name "A H / HASTINGS / HIGH St / CHATHAM" is an etched panel bearing the following inscription; "PRESENTED TO Mr A. J. PERSAC R. N. / BY THE SHIPS COMPANY / H. M. S. / FAULKNOR / MAY 1916" *(AJ Persac was the commanding officer of the ship and received the DSC for his leadership during the Jutland and Ostend raids during WW1). Blade overall about mint. Regulation style hilt with heavy brass 'cup' guard displaying crown over anchor in deep relief, with stippled background and sword knot slot near where it enters the pommel. Lion head pommel with backstrap cast in deep relief representation of fur. Interestingly the sword utilizes a ball capstan. Guard also about perfect retaining traces of the original gilt just showing some minor honest wear. White sharkskin grip with brass wire wrap also about perfect. Small folding courterguard which piercing that matches stud on the reverse of the top scabbard mount. Sword retains the original leather washer. Regulation scabbard, the brass mounts with incised line decoration on both sides and brass carrying rings, about perfect. Obviously, very well cared for. The sword bears the registration number 6949 in the back of the blade.

The H.M.S. Faulknor was a British destroyer purchased by the British Navy while she was still under construction, having been ordered by the Chilean Navy in 1912. She was named for the nineteenth century Faulknor family of British Naval officers. The Faulknor served on "Dover Patrol" throughout WW I and participated in the Battle of Jutland and both the 1st and 2nd Ostend Raids in the Spring of 1918. In 1920 the Faulknor was returned to the Chilean Navy where she served until 1933.
