WILSON., India General Service Medal (1908 – 35), with clasp AFGHANISTAN N.W.F. 1919, impressed named MAJ. D.C. WILSON. R.A., General Service Medal (1918 -62), clasp IRAQ, with Mention in Despatches device, impressed named MAJOR D.C. WILSON, Defence and War Medal (1939 – 45) un named as issued, Jubilee Medal (1935), un named as issued, French Third Republic Croix de Guerre, reverse dated 1914 – 1918. Lieutenant Colonel David Clitheroe Wilson was born on 8/5/1885 at Sculcoates, Yorkshire. Educated at Harrow finishing in 1902 and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Horse Artillery on 27/7/1905. He was promoted Lieutenant on 27/7/1908, and served in South Africa from 10/9/1909 to December 1911, and then in India from December 1911.
During WW1 he served in France 15/10/1914 - 26/12/1915, being promoted Captain on 30/10/1914. Posted as Brigade Major R.A. Home Forces 20/4/1916 - 10/7/1916, which was extended 11/7/1916 - 26/4/1917 to include Brigade Major R.A. Home Forces & France being promoted Major on 23/11/1916. He returned to France & Belgium January 1917 - 11/11/1918 when he was wounded date unknown. Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 14/12/1917) and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1/1/1918.
Post-War, Wilson saw further service, first on the North West Frontier of India, and then as a Brigade Major in Iraq and Mesopotamia 1919 - 1920, being Mentioned in Despatches in the latter campaign (London Gazette 9/9/1921). Promoted Lieutenant-Colonel on 3/2/1934, his final posting was to the Hong Kong Station, for which he was awarded the Jubilee Medal in 1935, and he retired on 25/6/1937. He was recalled to service in 1939.
The 1939 census records him as living in Abergele, Denbighshire occupation Lt Colonel Royal Artillery Training Depot and it is believed that he remained in the UK for the duration of the war acting in a training capacity. He died on 15/1/1962.
