WW1 German Iron Cross, 1st Class for bravery in combat. 42mm wide, flat 2 piece white metal frame, with iron core centre, with crown, royal cypher ‘W’ and 1914 date. Pin backed, marked H.B.G. to needle pin. The cross, along with the knurled pin miniature (marked E.R.) are both housed in the velvet lined leatherette award case & the extremely rare outer card award packet. The provisional award document for the cross is named to Unteroffizier Pottmann, 8th Company of the 131st Infantry Regiment (2nd Lotharingian – Alsace & Lorraine). Pottmann was awarded the cross in the field, on the 9th of November 1918, just two days before the Armistice which ended the First World War.
