WW1 GERMAN INFANTRY MAJOR’S TUNIC JACKET WITH CAP AND BELT
Offered for sale is an issued M1907 infantry tunic for a major. Field grey/green wool construction with red piping for artillery and an apple green wool collar with 2 hooks and loops. Slip on style shoulder boards have been sewn down and both buttons are present with no loose stitching, some edges have become thread bare exposing the interior of the shoulder board. Both collar tabs are in good condition and have no loose stitching. 8 tunic buttons are grey painted metal and are of the M1907 rimless pattern and stitching is good on all 8. 2 award loops are present and an Iron Cross 2nd class ribbon through the 3rd button hole. 3 belt hooks and 6 buttons are present on the back and are in good condition. The interior shows some light sweat staining and some repairs but apart from this the interior is in good condition. Belt is in good condition with expected wear and tear. Measurements, inside arm 47 cm, across shoulders 40 cm, waist 45 cm and belt overall length 108 cm.
Cap is in very good condition for its age only showing some small moth nips which do not detract at all from this piece. Both cockades are firmly in place and show lovely patina overall. Visor has age cracking and a 7-cm length of stitching has come loose but the visor is still firmly in place. Interior show fair wear and tear with sweat stains, one initial disc still remains of the two original ones on the sweat band, maker marked to Adalbert Breiter of Munich.
This is a stunning WW1 German combination and getting harder to find in this condition and would be a jewel in anyone’s collection.
