Includes copy paperwork relating to Smith, his life and death. It is noted he enlisted 23rd February 1915. He served in France with the 1st/5th Battalion of the King's Own - Royal Lancaster Regiment. He is shown as being wounded on the 1st Day of the Battle of the Somme (1st July 1916). He was Killed In Action 31st July 1917 at St. Jean. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial. He was 23 years old at the time of his death and hailed from Heywood, England.
