WW1 M.I.D. MEDALS LIEUTENANT W MILLER 111th BRIGADE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY ARMY

Offered is a WW1 trio of medal to Lieutenant W. Miller, Royal Field Artillery, who was Mentioned in Despatches whilst serving with the 2^nd Battery 111^th Brigade R.F.A.

1914 – 15 Star, impressed named 2. LIEUT. W. MILLER. R.F.A.; British War and Victory Medals (1914 – 18), impressed named LIEUT. W. MILLER. With copy M.I.D device. Court mounted for display comes with copies of M.I.C, medal roll and M.I.D card.

Lieutenant W. Miller was commissioned as a 2^nd Lieutenant 24/11/1914 into the Royal Field Artillery. He was posted to the 2^nd Battery 111^th Brigade R.F.A. This was part of the 25^th Division and the batteries were all armed with four 18-pounder field guns.

The Division was established in September 1914 as part of Kitchener’s Third New Army, K3. The units of the Division began to assemble in the area of Salisbury. Early days were somewhat chaotic, the new volunteers having very few trained officers and NCOs to command them, no organised billets or equipment. Inspected by Lord Kitchener on 12/8/ 1915, the units of the Division crossed to France 25 – 30 September and concentrated in the area of Nieppe.

Miller landed in France 26/9/1915. He received a Mention in Despatches as a Lieutenant which was Gazetted 15/6/1916, possibly for the Somme. He survived the war to be issued his medals 1920.
