WW2 Australian medal group of 6 to WX29078 Captain Richard Hertz. Group consists of 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence & War Medal, ASM 1939-45 & ASM 1945–75, with PNG bar. All medals are named to WX29078 R. HERTZ and court mounted for display. Comes with full copied service record, showing Hertz was born in Collie on the 27th February 1919, residing at 21 Chelmsford Rd, Mt. Lawley. He enlisted in to the 2/11th Battalion on the 1st of October 1941, serving in Darwin 4th April 1943, then proceeding to New Guinea from 25th November 1944 to 6th June 1946, having served 1735 days, with 568 of these overseas. He was transferred to the 23nd Australian Infantry Regiment in January 1946. He had previously served as a Captain in the militia with the 28th Battalion. Appointment terminated 1st July 1946. Interestingly he has given his religion as Jewish, which certainly fits into his suburban address at the time. His father, Joseph Hertz also served as a Captain in the 28th Battalion during the war.
