Description

Offered is an original Dutch United Nations Medal for Korean War service.

35mm wide circular bronze medal with claw and ribbon bar suspension; the face with a map of the world within a laurel wreath; the reverse inscribed ‘VOOR VERRICHTINGEN TER VERDEDIGING DER BEGINSELEN VAN HET HANDVEST DER VERENIGDE NATIES’ (For Service in Defence of the Principles of the Charter of the United Nations); on original ribbon mounted for wear with ‘KOREA’ bar.

The medal was established by the United Nations on 12 December 1950, the first international award of its kind, to be awarded to the members of the multi-national forces who participated in the Korean War between 27 June 1950 and 27 July 1954. The Netherlands asked exceptionally for this to extended to 1 January 1955 for Dutch forces.
