Offered is an original French Commemorative of the War of 1939-1945 medal.

38mm high bronze hexagonal medal; the face with the Gallic cockerel imposed on a Cross of Lorraine, in its claws a broken chain, signed ‘F. JOSSE’ and ‘G. SIMON’; the reverse inscribed ‘GUERRE 1939 1945’, stylised laurel leaves above, circumscribed ‘REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE’, with bronze assay mark; original ribbon with ‘ALLEMAGNE’, ‘NORVEGE’ and ‘GRAND BRETAGNE’ bars.

The medal was created on 21 May 1946 and awarded to military who participated between 3 September 1939 and 8 May 1945 in the war against the Axis powers. The medal may receive any of 16 bars. A good example in very good condition.
