RUSSIA / SOVIET WW2 MEDAL TO THE PARTISAN OF THE PATRIOTIC WAR 1ST CLASS

Offered is an original and rare Soviet Union/Russian Medal to Partisan of the Patriotic War, 1st class.

32mm wide circular silver medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the heads of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin facing left within a ring inscribed ‘ПАРТИЗАНУ ОТЕЧЕСТВЕННОЙ ВОЙНЬІ’ (Partisan of the Patriotic War), a ribbon below inscribed ‘‘CCCP’ (= SSSR for the ‘Union of Soviet Socialist Republics’), a five-pointed star with hammer and sickle imposed at the base; the reverse inscribed ‘ЗА НАШУ / СОВЕТСКУЮ / РОДИНУ’ (for our Soviet Motherland); on the correct ribbon and pentagonal hanger mounted for wear.

The Medal was instituted in two classes on 2 February 1943 to be awarded to partisans for outstanding achievements in the guerrilla war against occupying German forces.
