WW2 SWEDISH PRESENTATION OFFICERS SWORD & SCABBARD TO *RAF GROUP CAPTAIN*
Offered is an 1893 Pattern Swedish Cavalry Trooper's presentation sword to R.A.F. Group Captain C. H. Simpson.
The sword features a black enamelled wooden grip, mounted onto a plain brass back strap and punched hole bowl guard.
The 95 cm long double edged straight blade is in immaculate condition, showing regimental markings (matching to scabbard) A.4 2/K2 No.160 & maker stamp for E. SVALLING ESKILSTUNA (likewise stamped to scabbard drag). No sharpening or any wear to the entire blade.
The service scabbard is in very good condition, with excellent black enamel to surface. The scabbard is engraved:
This cavalry sabre is presented to the British Air Attache Group Captain C H Simpson by the Swedish Defence Command. Stockholm 21st December 1946.
Overall length: 115 cm.
Air Commodore Charles Hunting Simpson C.B.E. was commissioned into the RAF in October 1937. Qualifying as a Pilot in 1938 joined 115 Squadron. In April 1940 he was promoted to Flight Lieutenant and in December 1944 was serving on the Air Staff of Training Command with the rank of Acting Group Captain. In May 1946 he was posted as Air Attache to Stockholm and in 1955 was appointed Assistant Commandant RAF Staff College. His last posting was Senior RAF Officer East Africa and retired with the rank of Air Commodore April 1961. He died in 2000.
