Offered is an 1822 pattern British Infantry officer’s sword and scabbard, worn during the reign of King William IV, with a link to the county of Hertfordshire The sword features a gilt finished William IV (1830-1837) Royal cyphered gothic guard with shagreen and wire twist grip and remains of the original leather inner hand guard, showing some crazing and hard/dry. Good toned finished to guard, with sections of plating wear from use to the ornate backstrap, with an old reattachment repair to the quillon. Offered is an 1822 pattern British Infantry officer’s sword and scabbard, worn during the reign of King William IV, with a link to the county of Hertfordshire

The sword features a gilt finished William IV (1830-1837) Royal cyphered gothic guard with shagreen and wire twist grip and remains of the original leather inner hand guard, showing some crazing and hard/dry. Good toned finished to guard, with sections of plating wear from use to the ornate backstrap, with an old reattachment repair to the quillon.

Slightly curved 82cm single panel etched, piped back blade features the Hertfordshire deer, with H.D. to D.G. with pro aris et focis (For God and country) Latin motto and date for 1841, possibly a unit transfer date to the Dragoon Guards. Bright finish to the blade with very little wear. Steel scabbard complete with twin suspension rings, in very exceptional condition. Sword in scabbard it measures 98cm.
