Offered is a 1914 Star, impressed named 7059 PTE W.M. GILLESPIE. 5/SCO. RIF. Comes with copy M.I.C. & medal rolls. Private Walter McDonald Gillespie was born in 1893 at Glasgow. Unfortunately, his service records did not survive the ‘Blitz’, but what is known is that he would have been a pre-war territorial serving with the 5th Battalion Cameronians. On mobilization the battalion was at 261 West Princes Street in Glasgow. Due to the desperate fighting in France the Battalion was selected to reinforce the B.E.F, landing at Le Havre 5/11/1914 and came under orders of 19th Brigade in 6th Division....
