Lieutenant Sydney Charles Luckham was born on 5/7/1903 at Launceston, Cornwall, England. A motor body builder by trade, he enlisted into the Royal Navy as a Sick Berth Attendant on 12/6/1924 being given the service No M38112. He served at the following H.M. ship and shore bases: Pembroke II, Chatham Hospital, Sandhurst (Fleet repair ship), Ramillies (Battleship). Promoted to Sick Berth Petty officer 29/1/1936.
During WW2, he served on the H.M.S Atlantis (Hospital ship). Chatham Hospital . H.M.S. Nile (Royal Navy base at Ras el-Tin Point, Alexandria, Egypt, which operated between April 1939 and June 1946, was officially referred to as HMS Nile) 16/4/1940 -. At this stage his records are incomplete. He was awarded his B.E.M. for services in H.M.S. Chinkara, the Royal Navy Landing Craft Base in Cochin, India. He was commissioned on 1 October 1944 and paid off on 3 June 1946 discharging 18/8/1946 and died on the 23/3/1964 in Kent.
