Offered is an original 1918 dated Wilkinson made First World War 1907 pattern bayonet with scabbard, being maker marked for use by the 9th (Dunbartonshire T.F.) Battalion, The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. Bayonet & scabbard features steel fittings, with pommel (stamped 9. A&S.H. 521) & working release button, good used condition wooden grips and metal guard. The 44 cm long steel blade shows the ‘blood groove’ to the centre of each side of the blade and stamped Wilkinson (Sword), dated September 1918 (9 ’18). Standard leather & metal WW1 issue marked scabbard, with 658 stamped black enamelled mouth piece, showing good honest use to the leather body, with green painted metal tip. Overall length: 58cm long. A very good, unit marked example, as used with the classic Short Magazine Lee–Enfield No. 1 Mk. III service rifle.
